Haunted Places: The Blue Ghost Tunnel

The Merritton Tunnel in St. Catharines, Ontario is closed now, but used to be a train tunnel that ran underneath the Welland Canals. Built in the 1870s, it has had plenty of time to see tragedy, and to earn a new name. Locals call it the Blue Ghost Tunnel, or the Screaming Tunnel.

Over the years I’ve heard about a lot of these tunnels, whether train, road, or sewage, and I’ve almost always felt like just because it appears creepy doesn’t mean it’s haunted, but a lot of people tend to think that way. So I’ve never really taken these things seriously. Locally we have one that got so popular it appeared on news stations around Halloween and became a local celebrity for a while. And to me, it’s just a tunnel. Nothing more, nothing less.

However, this one seems to have gotten my attention. So much so that I actually had to write a post about it.

Whenever graves are compromised, I always feel like that’s one sure fire way to get a place haunted. And that’s one of the things that happened near the Blue Ghost Tunnel. The tunnel is also made out of limestone, which many believe is a magnet for paranormal activity. For instance, the “Stanley Hotel,” or the hotel from The Shining, was built on limestone.

Add these things together with trains crashing and killing people in the tunnel, and that sounds like the perfect recipe for something strange to happen. While I won’t drive a couple miles to see the local tunnel that is supposed to be an entry way to hell or something, I will drive hundreds of miles and cross the border to see this one.

While it is closed and not in use, people still venture into it to try and find a ghost, or hear ghostly things. One man recorded his trip and got some evidence that may or may not be ghost activity. It’s still certainly strange, and a place I wouldn’t mind visiting sometime. You can read more on this, see more pictures, and watch the video by visiting Wow Amazing.

Want To Live In Texas? Haunted House For Sale!

From CBS News:

MINERAL WELLS, Texas — For $125,000, you can be the proud owner of a three bedroom, two bathroom home that sits in the heart of Mineral Wells, Texas.

But there’s a catch — you need to be comfortable with the idea of sharing the property with paranormal spirits. The current owner, Phil Kirchhoff, says as many as nine inhabitants call the place home.

“When we bought the house, we had no idea that it was haunted,” Kirchhoff told CBS Dallas / Fort Worth. “I wasn’t involved in the paranormal [activity] at that point. The neighbors all started talking about it. They started telling us stories.”

The 2,800-square-foot home sits in the shadow of the historic Baker Hotel. It’s about a block and a half away.

Becky Foley, with Source 1 Real Estate, says this is her most unique listing to date. She herself doesn’t delve into the paranormal activity, but confesses to witnessing some odd occurrences.

“A client got literally nauseously ill and thought she was going to pass out and ran out,” Foley said. “She kept saying, ‘I can’t go back in there. Something hit me the moment you opened the door. I cannot go back in there.'”

I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to move!

Humanoids Caught On Tape

I was spending time on YouTube watching videos of death and stuff. I found some channels that I might be keeping up with, because they include videos like this…

Do you believe these videos are real? Whether or not you do, do you believe these sorts of creatures can exist?

Because of the age we live in now, I can’t believe anything I see on tape. While these are cool videos, I have to believe that each one is a fake. However, I do believe there are a whole lot of things in this universe that exist that we’ll never discover or understand. Maybe each one of these beings do exist. Maybe they don’t. Maybe we’ll never actually know for sure. Regardless, cool video!

She’s Doing Dishes

I spent some time with my dad recently and we got to talking, as we do. At one point we started talking about a trailer he lived in back in 1994 or 1995. I completely forgot about this place because he hadn’t lived there but a couple weeks it seemed. But as soon as he brought it up I remembered exactly how it looked on the inside, even though I had only been there once.

It was a tiny trailer, almost a camper that you’d pull behind a car when going camping for the weekend. In the middle of the place was the “kitchen” while there was a bed at either end. Typical layout. Dad told me that a couple days after he moved in he was lying in bed when he looked up and clear as day saw a woman standing at the sink washing dishes. Maybe only three or four feet away from him.

He found out two weeks later that she had lived there before him, and killed herself in one of the beds.

Dad kept all of his stuff on that bed and refused to use it or let anyone else use it.

Fireworks At The Lake

I’ve posted a few times about things happening at the lake where my dad lives. Surprisingly I haven’t made a Lake category. I’ll get to fixing that as soon as I’m done with this.

I spoke to him just the other day, after he told me about the stuff going on at Reily’s Pizza. He said some more things are going on where he lives.

A quick recap. The only people who lived at that lake for decades was the owner and his wife. My dad has been going there his entire life, so he’s known the owners at least that long. There were some campers there, and the owners let a few people who were close to them live there in the campers, my dad being one. A few years ago the owner’s wife passed away, and the owner, Arlie, decided to close the lake to customers. Since he was getting older and in failing health, my dad started taking care of him, because that’s the kind of guy my dad is.

Recently, Arlie had to move into a nursing home, and probably won’t get out of it this time. So, my dad is living at the lake now by himself, in Arlie’s place. With all that has gone on there over the years, paranormally speaking, it’s no surprise that things are continuing to happen, especially now that my dad is alone.

He said the other day he heard a loud pop. Said it sounded like those little firecracker things you throw at stuff and they pop when they hit something. He looked all over, outside too, and found nothing. An hour later, it happened again. This time he looked over at the front door, where he heard the sound come from, and said he saw a tiny puff of smoke near the door.

That’s when the TV started acting up. He said it shut itself off, and when he went to get the remote, it turned back on. And then it proceeded to turn itself off and on several more times.

My dad is used to the paranormal, as he’s dealt with it most of his life. It seems ghosts and the like are attracted to him. Still, it creeps him out sometimes, especially when he’s alone.

In-Laws Pt. 1

I’ve written about some of the things my in-laws experience in the apartment building they live in, here and here. And one day I hope to have even more stories about some of the other places they’ve lived. From what I’ve heard of these stories, you’re sure to love them.

Yesterday my wife’s aunt called me specifically to tell me of something that just happened to her.

She’s on oxygen now, as she only has so much use of her lungs, and she said when she goes to sleep at night she takes off the nose piece to her tube (for whatever reason) and hangs it on her night stand next to her bed. One night she did the same, and woke up the next morning to see that it wasn’t there. She has several, so she just grabbed another one.

Then, she said she had taken her sandals off and left them where she always does. One day right after her nose tube thing went missing, so did one of her sandals. Her and two others searched all over for both the sandal and the nose piece, and they never found either.

Six days later, her sandal was not only found, but it was in the place where she had left it originally. She still hasn’t found the nose piece to her oxygen tube.

I’m Back With More!

I know it has been awhile, but I’ve gone almost all year so far without a computer. I’m finally back on board though, and I realized just last night that I needed to do some catching up here, because I have stories to tell! Not many, and they’re not too crazy, but they’re something.

First, let me say that since I’ve been gone from here I’ve noticed a new (maybe?) group pop up called Cincinnati Ghost Seekers. They do ghost hunts all over the Cincinnati area and for a small fee you can join them. I haven’t been able to yet, but I plan to attend one or two in the near future. It has been too long for me! I need to get back out there.

If you’re interested in checking them and their ghost hunts out, the only links I could find, and I guess the only ones you need, are here. Their Facebook page, tickets for ghost hunts.

Now, back to business. I told you that my wife left her job at the Great Wolf Lodge. Well, her new job is doing the same thing, only at a different hotel. I never got any weird vibes there, and never heard anything about the area it’s in, so I never believed it to be haunted. And up until now nothing has ever happened, at least that my wife has heard about.

That is, until a couple months ago when there was an incident at the bar. Since I can’t tell you the actual name and location of this hotel, I need a new name. I’ll just call this one the Blue Ash Hotel. It is in Blue Ash, Ohio which is just north of Cincinnati, but there are dozens of hotels there.
